A new public body that people can trust to protect their data

A public body that will help to keep internet users safe and regulate data protection and content regulation that is transparent, empowered, well-resourced and capable of helping keep reform of regulation up to speed with technology changes.

The proposed Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation risks being a body that lacks any power to compel answers to reasonable questions, with an inadequate budget, an unknown membership and an unknown remit. Any public body tasked with leading reform in data protection and content regulation needs to be empowered, well-resourced and transparent. Only then can it get down to the task of helping to build digital trust.
